Drawn
an exhibition by Kim Mancini and Phil Tamblyn.
An exhibition about the visual journeys’ of two artists Kim Mancini and Phil Tamblyn. Drawn together from very different backgrounds, collaborating with a common interest of exploring and venturing. It just so happens, that when we explore, we are drawn to similar pathways.
We’ve walked down many roads, laneways and bush tracks, to discover what lies beyond the first sights of a car. We’ve meandered down these paths and strolled along country tracks, during hot summer days, early mornings, dusk and deep in winter nights. We’ve discovered allyways, that lead to natural sanctuaries and forgotten buildings, that were once the centre of thriving communities.
We’ve discovered views from beach walks that seldom come into focus on a normal day by the bay. Wandered through suburban streets to discover buildings and gardens which lie on the other side of fences. Taking a peak down entrances into other people’s worlds. Peered into yards where we see wonder, cherished memories and little worlds within our world.
We’ve both been drawn to forest tracks that lead to landscapes and vistas looking out to distant horizons. However, we tell very different stories to visually render them. This is a combination of many years of wanting to explore our part of the world together, as we capture and record images of the past, as well as telling our own stories. A collaboration to see how two artists view our natural world and our built environment.
