The session will include learning different techniques for observation, along with different ways to use the materials before we settle in for one final drawing session to test our skills.

Air Dry Clay Sculpture Component Making Techniques with Karen Roberts

In this workshop participants will learn some of the uses of airdry clay and ceramic clays . Karen will demonstrate the steps to create a small head which participants can follow and make their own as well as making other little components to be used as they wish in future projects. Karen will also discuss the use of molds and the products she uses to create them.

Aluminium Etching with Elyse Taylor

Aluminium etching can be a safer, cheaper, and more accessible alternative to copper or zinc etching. In this workshop we will cover:

  • How to cut and prepare aluminium plates

  • Mixing copper sulphate and salt etching solution to bite aluminium plates

  • Demonstrations of different methods of tone creation and mark making

You will come out of the workshop with:

  • Etched plate

  • Print proof

To prepare for this workshop, you will need a simple 10cm x 10cm image that you can draw onto the plate.

All other materials are supplied, including a prepared aluminium plate, proofing paper and ink.

Artist In Residence Workshop: Basket Weaving with Lorraine Hollis

Learn the learn the technique of simple basket weaving to create a small hand knotted basket. This is a technique that will give you the foundation to explore the art of basket weaving.

This 2 hour workshop will teach you

  • How to begin a coil

  • How to make a flat base

  • How to create a raised edge

  • How to finish your piece professionally.

Materials will be provided to make one small pot or coaster

Facilitator: Lorraine Hollis is a textile artist with a degree in fine arts and creative industries. She has many years of experience creating and teaching art.

Artist in Residence Workshop: Yoga in the Gallery

LAST TICKET - Due to a last minute cancellation ONE ticket has become available for this event.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a wonderful practice to unwind and find a pathway to relaxation in a busy fastpaced life. The fully supported poses allow time to rest, with the session focused on ‘being present and calm’ rather than ‘doing.’ This provides opportunity to truly experience deep relaxation. Some poses are held in silence, whilst others will be an opportunity to explore breath practice (pranayama).

The session will conclude with a soothing guided meditation.

Facilitator: Coralie is an artist and a teacher with a Masters in Inclusion, recently having completed a 300 hour yoga and meditation teaching course.

Please Bring: YOGA MAT AND SMALL BLANKET and PILLOW (a limited number of yoga mats will be available, please let us know on booking)

Introduction to Basket Weaving

Introduction to Basket Weaving

Participants will begin the creative process of making and deigning their own fabric, woven basket or bowl.

All materials will be supplied including a range of colourful fabric to choose from.

Detailed instruction will be given in starting the process- the trickiest bit. Options on finishing will be provided so you can continue the fun at home.

Your instructor and guide in this process is Lyn Taylor. Lyn is a serial creative and has used her hands in many creative ways in the past. Her current passion is working with fabric as her chosen medium. Colours, textures and shapes define her work. Most of the materials that make up her work have been found or sourced second hand and up cycled. This being one of the philosophies that underpin her work.

Every participant will receive a sketchbook, blackwing pencil and flowers from the table to take home. Price also includes a variety of savoury and sweet treats and bottomless tea and coffee.

No drawing experience necessary. Just come and let us show you some simple ways of looking and sketching, and try out some simple sketches in your new sketchbook or simply have a delightful morning out in the Gallery in Fifth Avenue, Sandgate.

Costumed Life Drawing - Star Wars Themed

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU! Ok, listen. It HAD to be done. It is Star Wars day and Costumed Life Drawing month so STAR WARS theme IT IS! We have our two cosplay life models, Ken and Bethany Cooke, back with us again for all your Star Wars themed drawing needs. Life drawing sessions are suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced and is great for learning to draw the human figure with props and clothing.
