Professional Artist Series: What is a Conservator?

Samantha Shellard, Conservator (Works on Paper) at the Queensland Art Gallery Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) will discuss the ethics and responsibilities of conservation. This will be followed by a Q&A session that is your opportunity to ask questions about challenges you face as a contemporary artist.

Samantha Shellard has been Conservator, Works on Paper at QAGOMA since 2002. Samantha also worked as Paper Conservator at the State Library of Victoria 1994 – 2002. In 1999 Samantha received a Gordon Darling Foundation Travel Fellowship to undertake post graduate ICCROM studies at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC USA. Samantha has a B.App. Science in the Conservation of Cultural Materials (1994) University of Canberra. In 2024 she will begin a Graduate Certificate in Visual Art (Printmaking) at Queensland College Art Griffith University. Samantha has a keen interest in contemporary art and developing solutions its care, display, and storage.
